Phippsburg’s Working Waterfronts
Spirit Pond's Working Waterfront
This electric motor, funded by an Island Institute grant, is so quiet, that the first time I rode in Terry's skiff, I had no clue the motor was running until we zipped away from shore.
To make room for the oyster bags we'd haul up that day, Terry offloaded his usual gear.
Sudden rain after drought makes for a wet boat.
Terry grows oysters from spat out on Spirit Pond, in a variety of bags.
We started building a wall of wet bags between us.
This oyster spat will overwinter another year, growing towards market size.
There's nothing idle about marine work.
Terry's a good sport–I don't know that I would love having someone snapping my picture while I typed.
A few more bags to haul up before season's end.
